Ambassador Motorcycles was a British Manufacturer. The company was founded by the Irish racer Kaye Don in 1946. The company was initially started to import American cars and did not start manufacturing motorcycles until about a year later when a prototype – 494cc vertical twin JAP engine, was developed. The production of the small Villiers engines were also introduced in 1947 and they proved so successful that the company carried on using them until 1964! The company produced light weight and costly motorcycles. Ambassador produced a model with electric starters and the first Ambassador twin hit the market in 1957.
There was a take over of the company in 1963 by DMW, who continued production up until 1965 and some of the models were rebadged as DMW However Ambassador bikes were expensive and did not sell well although export to Australia and New Zealand.
