Ducati

DUCATI

Ducato Motor Holding S.p.A. was founded in 1926 by three brothers Bruno, Marcello and Adriano Ducati and based in Bologna. Italy this motorcycle manufacturer is known for its marriage of style with performance and has achieved respect and prominence in the motorcycle racing world as well as in the motorcycle Industry. Initially the company produced vacume tubes, condensers and other radio components.
The Second World War hit Ducati hard but there was a silver lining for them as we all well know. The Cucciolo (Italian for “puppy” – because of its distintive exhaust sound) was launched in 1946 customers bought the motor and attached it to their bicycle. Businessmen cashed in on this by buying the engines in quantity and offered complete motorised bicycyles for sale. Ducati dropped the name Cucciolo around the early 1950s replacing it with “55m” and “65TL”
The Cruiser 175cc, electric start was the first scooter Ducati produced, many other bikes arrived in the 1950's such as the Spartan 98cc, the four stroke Tourist 174.
In the 1960s Ducati produced the fastest 250cc road bike available at the time, the Mach 1 and earned its rightful place as a legend in the world of motorcycles.
In the 1970's Ducati had huge success on the track winning first and second in the Imola 200 miles, Mike Haliwood won the Formula 1 TT on the Mythic Mountain.
In 1983 Ducati was bought by the Cagiva group which was owned by Claudio and Gianfranco Castiglioni, then came the expansion within the motorcycle market, bringing new models and giving more commitment to racing.
1993 saw the idea of the Monster being born, Miguel Galluzzi’s idea was a major success and over took most of the naked motorcycles.
The MH900e was the first motorcycle to be sold exclusively on the internet, the success egged them on to create their webpage.

The history and details of these legendary bikes are available to riders and enthiasts alike at the Ducati Museum.
