The Rickman story has two lanes or strings – Derek and Don Rickman and Adrian Moss.
The Rickman brothers are rumoured to have said “We wanted to build a machine that was not only engineered well but one that also looked good” And they did just that. They set up a Motorcycles factory in New Milton producing well built, well known and liked motorcycle. Award winner and motorcycle enthusiast Adrian Moss set up a company, in 1980 – Adrian Moss Racing – in Stroud repairing and rebuilding motorcycles. Whilst doing this he came across Rickman motorcycles and the famous Rickman duo. Adrian became a regular customer and built up a good relationship with the Rickman Brothers. Soon Adrian became the primary supplier of Rickman Spares, so naturally when the brothers decided to sell; Adrian was offered and bought the complete stock of Rickman parts. Grabbing this opportunity with both hands Adrian started specialising in the pre-65 bikes (up to mark 111). The licence to trade under the Rickman Motorcycles name was sold off to a major well known retailer of that time. Adrian reached and agreement with this company which allowed him to legitimately sell the Rickman based motorcycles his company was creating and when the trademark became available of course Moss and his company bought it. In 1982 Adrian Moss organised the first specialist motorcycle scramble for pre-65 machines.
