Honda Motor Company Ltd is the worlds largest manufacturer of Motorcycles. This Japanese company is known by every rider aroubd the world.
From a very young age Soichiro Honda, Honda’s founder had a great interest in automobiles. He started work Yokyo Art Shokai, a Japanese Automobile servicing company as an apprentice. It was here that Soichiro not only learnt about repair work on automobiles and motorcycles but was also encouraged in the world of Motorsport. A while later Soichiro started working on a piston design which he hoped to sell to Toyota, who rejected his first drafts. Soichiro went back to the drawing board and painstaking started perfecting his design before taking it back to Toyota. This time he was succesful and won a contract.
It was during World War 2, due to a gas shortage that Honda came up with the novel idea of attaching a small engine to his bicycle, attracting much curiosity in the process – this led him to establish the Honda Technical Research producing small 2-cycle motorbike engines. This soon led to the production of his first motorcycle, The Honda CUB and this was the start of a company that has grown into becoming the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer!
The Dream E-Type was Honda's first 4 stroke machine. In 1973 Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa retired from Honda and Kawashima becomes president.
At its peak, in 1982, Honda manufactured nearly 3 million motorcycles.
Not content with producing famous, world reknowned and loved motrcycles Honda is also very active in motorsports like Superbike racing and Motorcycle Grand Prix amongst others. In fact in 1959 Honda entered five motorcycles in the Isle of Man TT race!
